A Pennsylvania woman has been identified as a person of interest in the disappearance and murder of her 14-year-old daughter after authorities reported finding the girl’s dismembered remains, according to a report.
Fox 29 Philadelphia reported Thursday that Grace Packer was reported missing from her home on July 11. At the time police said she left her home with $300 in cash in her pocket. County prosecutors said Grace’s dismembered body was found in remote woods on Halloween by two hunters. “How did this young girl disappear from her home in Abington Township and end up in a remote area of Luzerne County?” Montgomery County prosecutor Kevin Steele asked. Bucks County prosecutor Matthew Weintraub said Sara Packer, 41, is a person of interest in the investigation. Police said she was the person who reported her daughter missing.

Packer was charged last month with child endangerment and obstructing the administration of law in connection with the disappearnce, Fox 29 reported. She is behind bars in lieu of a $10,000 bail. She has not been charged in her daughter’s murder. Authorities say Packer knows more about what happened to her daughter than she has divulged, according to the station. She has been accused by authorities of hindering efforts to find Grace by withholding information, lying to detectives and keeping secret a move to another town.

The station also reports that Packer pocketed $3,600 in disability benefits for her daughter after the disappearance.

A 33-year-old man is facing a capital murder charge after being arrested in last week's road rage killing of a three-year-old Arkansas boy out Christmas shopping with his grandmother.
Gary Holmes was charged after surrendering to police in his hometown of Little Rock, Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Harris said late Thursday. Holmes was the subject of national outrage and a $40,000 reward after allegedly shooting the boy after becoming enraged when his grandmother did not move fast enough after braking for a stop sign.

Holmes was booked into the Pulaski County Jail on one count of capital murder in the death of little Acen King during a traffic stop on Dec. 17.
He was also charged with two counts of carrying out a terroristic act. U.S. Marshals worked with the suspect's parents to coordinate the surrender to Little Rock police,


A reporter for the station reported in a tweet that Holmes lives near the scene of the shooting. Holmes allegedly fired into the car, striking the boy with the fatal bullet. The grandmother, who wasn't struck, drove away and called police from a shopping center. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after. Police Lt. Steve McClanahan said investigators believe the boy and his grandmother “were completely innocent” and have no relationship with the shooter. He said the grandmother simply was “driving the car and was taking her grandson shopping when the incident occurred.”
It was the second deadly Little Rock road rage incident involving a young child in the last few weeks. A 2-year-old girl was killed in November when a suspect who is still at-large drove by the vehicle she was riding in and opened fire. “We cannot have a community to where the least protected among us, being infants, who are dying (in) these senseless crimes in our city,” Police Chief Kenton Buckner said. He said he didn't know if the children's shootings were related.

BOSTON – A man who survived a deadly 2012 drive-by shooting in Boston identified former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez in court on Tuesday as the one who pulled the trigger. The judge presiding over the upcoming murder trial also denied a bid by Hernandez's lawyer to push back the February start. Prosecutors asked Raychides Sanches during Tuesday's pretrial hearing to describe the chaotic scene the night of July 16, 2012. Sanches said he had been a passenger in a car stopped at a light in the city's South End when an SUV pulled up. He said someone from the SUV said "What's up, negroes?" and then gunfire erupted. Sanches said bullets struck 29-year-old Daniel de Abreu and 28-year-old Safiro Furtado. When asked who the shooter was, Sanches nodded in the direction of Hernandez in Suffolk Superior Court, the Boston Herald reported. "Looked like him," he said. "Hernandez." Another survivor of the shooting, Aquilino Freire, told the court he was shot twice and described the shooter as light skinned, with no beard but tattoos. Hernandez faces two counts of murder in the deaths of Furtado and de Abreu. Prosecutors say he gunned down the two men after one of them bumped into him at a Boston nightclub earlier that night. The former tight end has pleaded not guilty. Hernandez already is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 2013 shooting death of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. Tuesday's hearing focused on a number of pre-trial issues as jury selection is slated to begin Feb. 13. Prosecutors are asking the judge to allow Sanches and Freire to give a general description of the shooter during trial. Defense lawyers argued that attorney-client privilege may have been violated because prison officials have acknowledged Hernandez's jailhouse calls were accessed by unauthorized people while he was awaiting his first murder trial. Hernandez is due back in court for another hearing Dec. 27.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A retired police officer has been accused of killing four men who went missing during a drug deal this year, and authorities have discovered the remains of four bodies on property linked to him. Nicholas Tartaglione was arrested on Monday on charges of murder and conspiracy to distribute 5 kilograms and more of cocaine, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said. "While all murders tear at the fabric of our communities, when the alleged perpetrator of a gangland-style, quadruple homicide is a former police officer, that strikes at the heart of civilized society," Bharara said. Tartaglione, who used to work for the Briarcliff Manor police department and lives in Otisville, pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Mark DeMarco, did not immediately return a telephone message requesting comment. Prosecutors said Tartaglione participated in the killing of Martin Luna, Urbano Santiago, Miguel Luna and Hector Gutierrez in April in and around a bar called the Likquid Lounge in Chester while conspiring to sell cocaine. They said some of the victims were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. "These four men had not been seen or heard from since the day of their alleged murder," said Bharara, who hoped the arrest brought "some measure of comfort to the victims' families and loved ones." Chester police Chief Peter Graziano said one or two of the victims had been involved in some kind of drug activity.
